The contact chip cards have valid PIN values (offline for Mastercard and online for Visa and Discover). These PINs enable simulation of PIN retry and PIN blocked, but the usage of a wrong PIN will not result in the PIN being blocked. The block is simulated so that the cards can be re-used.
PINs are1234 (Visa and Discover) and 4315 (Mastercard) – entry of 1122 will simulate a blocked PIN and 5678 one retry remaining.
The cards have the mag-stripe encoded. When using a terminal that is both EMV and mag-swipe enabled, initially swiping the card should result in the terminal requesting a chip transaction to be performed. If the card is inserted with chip covered or reversed, a fallback (mag-stripe) transaction can be performed.
